The drive from the mandap to the Randhawa mansion was suffocating.

Prarthna sat stiffly in the back seat, her bridal jewelry weighing like chains, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. The sindoor still burned on her forehead, the mangalsutra heavy around her neck. Each ornament screamed of a fate she had never chosen.
